The John Hope Scholarship
The trustees award a scholarship with the following criteria:
1. The Scholarship shall be called “The John Hope Scholarship”.
2. The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Trustees of the Hope Trust at such time as they think fit, typically at the biannual meeting of the Trustees.
3. The Scholarship shall be of such amount as the Trustees may decide.
4. The purpose of the Scholarship is to promote research (as approved by the Trustees) in the theological disciplines on the part of Ministers or recognised candidates for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland or of any Reformed Church in Scotland.
5. The Scholarship shall normally be open to applicants
(a) who are graduates in Divinity of a Scottish University;
(b) who are Ministers of or recognised candidates for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland or any Reformed Church in Scotland;
and
(c) who have been accepted as candidates for a Higher Degree in Divinity by a Scottish University.
6. The Scholarship shall be awarded in the first instance for one year, but may be extended to one or two further years on the Trustees receiving evidence of satisfactory progress in the study of the approved subject.
7. The Trustees may make such arrangements for the award of the Scholarship and may amend the terms and conditions of the Scholarship as they in their sole discretion may think fit.
8. The preferred subjects are Theology, Church History and Biblical Criticism.
